Sorry for the long absence, but I’ve been busy stitching away on my first original crewel design! I’m super happy with it and anxious to share it with you!
I wanted to design something that would fit right in with all my 1960s and 70s crewel pieces and I think I’ve done it! I also finally got motivated to rehang them all so they looked a little more purposeful.
I framed it with a simple gallery frame for stretched canvas I got at the art supply store.
This project was so fun to do! And I designed it in a way that should make it easy enough for a beginner to do. I am busily working on designing packaging and should be able to accept orders for kits in the next couple of weeks!

12 years agoI LOVE it! I am going to be first in line to buy one for sure. I have a little embroidery experience how different is Crewel? I look forward to seeing what else you come up with!

12 years ago AUTHORLaura, crewel is simply embroidery done with wool, so it should be no big leap at all for you!

12 years agoI meant to respond when you first mentioned designing kits that I thought a couple of sizes on offer would be nice. I am really running out of room on my crewel picture wall.
Betty
12 years ago AUTHORLinda, that is definitely something I’m planning. While this design is sized 18×24 I do plan to offer a smaller size that can either be a pillow or smaller wall hanging.

12 years agoSo cute! I wish you could turn the other vintage kits into new kits for those of us who have not been so lucky on the vintage crewel front! I’ve been dying to get my hands on the Try a little kindness, God bless our pad, and please no smoking for YEARS now and have had no luck getting my hands on the kits or finished pieces. 🙁

12 years ago AUTHORI know exactly what you mean Aubrey! That is exactly why I wanted to start designing kits – the great old ones are SO hard to find! And while I just don’t feel right totally copying those vintage ones, I am trying to capture the feel of them with something that is completely my own.

12 years agoThere is a God Bless Our Pad on eBay now..just saw it from Beth’s blog…not sure if the price is reasonable ‘tho since I don’t collect crewel.

12 years agoForgot to say that the original design really looks authentic ’70s style. I don’t doubt you will get a lot of requests for this one.

12 years ago AUTHORThanks so much Tammy! Thanks also for the heads up on the God Bless Our Pad – I forwarded that on to Melinda who has been searching!

12 years agoOh, how I love these. I’m supposed to be on a craft moratorium right now! My mother saw how many unfinished projects I had and scolded me and told me I was no longer allowed to buy until I finished a few…agh!!!
What to do, what to do?!?
Betty
12 years ago AUTHORKory, I’ve noticed that when I force myself to work on unfinished projects, it kills my creativity and motivation. Any crafter worth her needles always has a few unfinished projects lying about! 😉
